About this place
Pairing a crystal-clear soy ramen broth with a deeply savory black curry is the signature draw at In Dian in Kita Ward's Toshima district. The classic combination of shina soba and a half-portion of curry is what many guests order without hesitation. Alternating between the light, unpretentious ramen and the rich curry brings out the distinct qualities of both.
The appeal of the shina soba lies in the balance between its transparent soup and the delicate, curly thin noodles that catch it cleanly. Subtle notes of yuzu perfume the refined, gentle broth, making it effortless to drink down to the very last drop alongside straightforward slices of tender chashu pork. The curry takes an opposite approach: dark in hue, it leans away from sharp heat and emphasizes slow-cooked depth and savory ingredients, reminiscent of old-school Japanese Western-style fare.
Noodle options also extend to wonton noodles topped with plump, generously filled dumplings, as well as an aromatic black sesame tantanmen. Diners can also swap the curry for a fluffy half-order of fried rice, or round out the meal with pan-fried gyoza and a small bottled beer.
The interior centers around counter seating, creating a calm, casual environment where solo diners can eat comfortably. Operating primarily for lunch between 11:30 and 15:00 on every day except Friday, the shop operates on cash-only payments.
